Navarre’s softball team played a doubleheader against Glenwood (AL) March 22 and lost the opener 8-0 before bouncing back with an 11-4 win. The Raiders managed only three hits in the first game but cranked out nine hits in the finale, including three by Kallie Anderson.
Anderson and Jordyn York both belted home runs in the victory, with York driving in four runs. Anderson’s home run tied the game at 4-4 in the fifth. York’s homer, a three-run shot, capped off the scoring for the Raiders in the bottom of the sixth.
A bases-loaded walk in the fifth gave Navarre the lead for good at 5-4 and a passed ball brought another run home before Samantha Combs came through with a two-run base hit to push the Raiders’ advantage to 8-4.
Hanna Stapleton earned the win in the second game, working all seven innings. She gave up four runs on six hits and struck out eight.
The Raiders were unable to carry the momentum into the new week, however, as were edged 4-3 by county rival Milton Monday afternoon.
They didn’t go down without a fight, though, nearly rallying for the victory after falling behind 4-1 in the first four innings of play.
Emma Thomas scored on a passed ball in the fifth to trim the Milton lead to two. Thomas then delivered a run-scoring hit in the sixth to pull the Raiders within a run of the Panthers.
Thomas was one of five players to get a hit against Milton. KK Trombley, Combs, Anderson and Gabby Ayala had the other hits.
Taylor and Stapleton both pitched three innings apiece and each allowed two runs on three hits. Stapleton struck out five batters. Taylor recorded one strikeout.
Navarre is scheduled to play Gulf Breeze Thursday night in a 7 p.m. road game.
