Off in the distance, away from where Navarre was still trying to shake off the sting of losing in the District 1-4A championship game for the second year in a row, Niceville celebrated its title.
The cheers echoing through Sherman Robinson Stadium in Pensacola were ones the Raiders could hear loud and clear as they gathered on a set of bleachers to listen to their head coach, Abdalla Elbaioumy, give a postgame talk.
One of these days the Raiders will unlock the code that leads to a win over the Eagles. They have lost their last six against them, twice with a district title hanging in the balance.
One of these days, the Raiders believe, they will be where the Eagles stood on a chilly February evening, hoisting a trophy and savoring the moment.
“We can win a championship. Anything is possible. Our team will have a chance to do it next year,” Elbaioumy said.
A title dream is a reality again for the Raiders because of the program Elbaioumy has built. He’s carefully planned each move, putting the program in a spot where it now doesn’t have to worry about rebuilding. It merely reloads.
