In a game punctuated with rough play, the Lady Raiders shutout district rival Milton, 2 – 0 at home on Nov 21.
The Lady Raiders found it rough going each time they moved the ball into Panther territory. Three times in the first five minutes of play, the Raiders moved the ball deep in the Milton end. However, the attacks were halted when Emily Madril was tripped by the Panther defense. Although a foul was called for the trip, it allowed the Panthers to get back on defense and regroup.
In the 8th minute, Anakah Madril brought the ball down the center of the field. As the defense collapsed around her she made a short pass to her sister, Emily about 30 yards in front of the Panther goal. Emily moved the ball around a defender and shot from inside the 18-yard line. The Panther keeper did not have a chance as the ball found the left corner of the net.
At the 20th minute, Emily Madril dislodged the ball from a Milton forward near midfield. Emily started toward the Milton goal, passing defenders like they were telephone poles along the side of the road. When Madril reached the 18-yard line, she fired a rocket into the Panther net.
Neither team knew it at the time, but that goal would be the last score of the match. Now it was time for the defense to step up. Great defense starts with great goal keeping. Jessika Seward had two saves in the first half and Emily Despersio had three saves in the second half.
