Jordan Jefferson stood on the Raider logo, the bar, loaded up with 355 pounds, at his feet.
His teammates cheered. Many of the fans did as well. Some held up their cell phones to record an historic moment for the Navarre senior at the 1-2A Regional meet Friday afternoon.
Jefferson paused for a few moments, took a breath and picked up the bar with everything he had. He raised it above his head, holding it with perfect form, setting a regional clean-and-jerk record he had just beaten once already in his previous lift.
The old record was 340. He broke it with a lift of 350 pounds on his second attempt.
He then topped it by five pounds to close out his day, pumping his fist as he dropped the bar and clapped his hands before celebrating the moment with his fellow Raiders. His combined lift total of 785 pounds also broke a regional record.
More importantly, Jefferson is headed back to state.
“All glory goes to God,” Jefferson said. “It was crazy. I got up there and was like I have to do this. There is no doubt in my mind.
