Raiders ranked in preseason AP football poll

Navarre’s football team will start the season with added hype.

The Raiders are ranked ninth in the preseason Associated Press 6A poll. They are the only team in the area ranked in the top 10. Escambia and Tate received nine and eight votes, respectively.  Miami Carol City is the top-ranked team in the state and received nine first-place votes.

Navarre is coming off one of its best seasons in program history, reaching the state semifinals for the second time in five years. The Raiders finished 12-2, marking the second time in school history they have won 12 games in a season.

The Raiders have won 21 of their last 22 regular-season games and begin the 2017 campaign Friday night with a 7:30 p.m. showdown against Pensacola Catholic at Bennett C. Russell Stadium.
