Raiders put potential on display in win over Bulldogs

Potential has been within reach all season for Navarre. The Raiders  just haven’t lived up to it.

But it was different Friday night. Everything fell into place in Navarre’s 52-14 District 1-7A victory over Crestview at Bennett C. Russell Stadium.

The offense put up more points than it has in any other game this season and the defense didn’t have to sweat getting the big stop late as its work was already complete behind a relentless and bruising effort.

This was the Navarre team most expected to see in 2019. To have it all come together is something the Raiders couldn’t help but smile about as they celebrated on the field.

“It feels good,” senior defensive standout Xayvion Thomas said. “We played with a lot of confidence. It was the one thing we were lacking, that confidence and swagger. We had it tonight.”

Senior quarterback Marlon Courtney agreed. It was a good feeling for him seeing all the hard work pay off in a game the Raiders needed to win to breathe life into their playoff hopes.

“We work every day to try to get better, and it took until now to show what we can do,” Courtney said.
