Although they were only two preseason games, Navarre’s girls soccer team appears to be in midseason form, winning 3-0 over Arnold and 2-0 over Fort Walton Beach last week.
“I am really excited about this year,” Coach Rob Simon said. “We have a lot of potential, but we should not get big heads. We played well during most of the two games, but there are a lot of little things that we need to work on.”
As is typical in preseason games, both teams substituted freely.
“It was the first varsity experience for some of the girls,” Simon said. “I wanted them to get a feel of working together.”
The Raiders won their first district and regional championship last year on their way to the final four. They graduated only two players from that squad. Unfortunately, midfielder Cat Baccarini was lost for the season with an injury over the summer.
Raiders 3, Arnold 0
Despite missing Brenda Bishop due to an injury, the Raiders’ defense dominated play against the Marlins in the first preseason game of the season on Oct. 21 at home. The Marlins’ offense put together a drive as they were smothered at midfield. Arnold was held to zero shots on goal.
