Raiders perform well at EscaRosa cross-country meet

Underclassmen led the way for both Navarre cross-country teams at the Escambia-Santa Rosa Championships meet last Thursday at the University of West Florida.

Teams from both counties competed, but there were separate trophies for the top teams in both counties.

Both Navarre squads finished third among Santa Rosa schools and fourth overall in the field.

Gulf Breeze nabbed the Santa Rosa girls title. Pace won the boys trophy.

It was no surprise to see Navarre freshman Emma Kirby motoring along as the first Raider in the pack. At the beginning of the second loop, she was shoulder-to-shoulder with senior Talley Yamaguchi. The big surprise was the appearance of Kada Biehl as the third Navarre runner.

Biehl, another Raider freshman, has made massive improvements this season. Her first time was a 29:07 at the Pace Patriot Invitational Sept. 7. She didn’t even appear on the varsity roster until the third event on the team’s 2019 schedule.

And on a cool October afternoon, she broke the 24-minute barrier.

“I was thinking, this is my second to last race (of the season), and I want to make it a good one,” Biehl said.
