Dusty Rogers delivered a clutch two-run hit to break a scoreless tie and Matt Cronin struck out 11 in a complete-game effort as the Navarre Raiders knocked off Tallahassee Lincoln 4-1 Thursday night in a 7A regional quarterfinal at home
Rogers drilled a big hit to the outfield in the fourth inning, bringing Cyrus Grimes and Octavien Moyer across the plate to put the Raiders (20-6) ahead 2-0 . Cade Taylor drew a bases-loaded walk in the inning as well as Navarre pushed its lead to 3-0.
Micah Daniel scored the other run on a passed ball in the sixth as the Raiders advanced to play Chiles on the road Tuesday in the regional semifinal round. Navarre has won 13 in a row.
“Felt good to help out the team. To put runs on the board was a big thing,” Rogers said. “Our bond is tremendous. We have such good chemistry.”
Cronin threw with confidence throughout the night, striking out the side to close out the game. He pumped his fist as he got the last strikeout and joined his team in a quick celebration.
“It was a good feeling. I wanted to get that last batter,” Cronin said. “I love this team. We’re playing well and feel like we’re going to make a great run at state.”
Navarre head coach Scott Murphy said an all-around solid effort was the key to victory.
“Everyone works hard. They feed off one another,” Murphy said. “What won for us today is the team. This is a team sport and we have a good team.”
