Navarre’s softball team battled hard but lost a pair of close games last week. The Raiders were edged 2-1 by West Florida Thursday and let a lead slip away in a 9-8 loss to Choctaw Friday.
Choctaw 9, Navarre 8
The Raiders were riding high going into the bottom of the seventh inning in its road game against the Indians. The Raiders had just scored three runs at the top of the inning to build an 8-3 lead.
However, Choctaw canceled any Raider victory party by scoring six runs in the bottom of the seventh to win by a 9-8 score.
The Raiders took a two-run lead in the first when Holly Koch singled. Koch moved to third on Kallie Anderson’s single. Koch scored on Hanna Stapleton’s single and Anderson scored on Emily Cannington’s single.
After giving up a run to the Indians, the Raiders struck for three more runs in the top of the third. Gabby Ayala walked to lead off the inning. Koch singled and Anderson tallied a base hit as well, loading the bases. Stapleton’s sacrifice fly scored Ayala. Natalie Holbrook singled, scoring Koch and Anderson and the Raiders led 5-1 after three innings.
