Raiders go 1-2 in boys soccer action

Navarre’s boys soccer team went 1-2 in its most recent stretch of games, knocking off Escambia but falling to Arnold and Niceville.

Arnold 3, Navarre 1

Navarre traveled to Panama City last Monday and fell to Arnold for the second time this season.

The Marlins scored twelve minutes in, and increased their lead to 2-0 with four minutes left in the first half.

The Raider’s deficit grew to three with just five minutes elapsed in the second half.

A combination that has proved lethal all year helped the Raiders avoid the shut out. Malone Doughty passed to Jonah Cruz and he converted with just under twenty minutes remaining in the game.

Navarre 3  Escambia 0

Navarre bounced back from its loss the previous night with a 3-0 blanking of Escambia.

Garrett Hagood, Mat Dunham, and Zack Gonzales each scored in the victory.

The win improved the Raiders to 11-4 overall and 7-2 in district play.

Niceville 4, Navarre 2

Niceville traveled to Navarre on Monday sporting a 14-1 record, and while the most recent matches between the two teams have been competitive, the Eagles have come out on top more often than not.

Navarre looked to change the trend and was well on its way early.

Just over three minutes in, Bailey Bridges took a free kick. The Niceville keeper came out of the box for the save, but Jonah Cruz was able to get his head on the ball just enough to guide it into the open net for the early Raider lead.

The 1-0 advantage held until late in the half when Niceville was awarded a controversial penalty kick and converted to knot the score at the half.

Navarre regained the lead 8:45 into the second half. Malone Doughty dribbled deep into the Eagle end and crossed a nice pass in front of the goal that Cruz was able to convert to put the Raiders ahead.

Niceville’s Austin Adair tied the contest when he had an open net after a loose ball found his foot on a corner kick.

Zack Gonzales made multiple spectacular saves on the night, but he had no chance when Tyler Gilley found himself free from 25 yards out and blasted a left footer into the top corner of the net to put the Eagles ahead.

Navarre did the visitors a favor with five minutes left in the game when an attempt to clear a loose ball in front of the goal instead found its way into the net
