Navarre is back on the road tonight. The Raiders head to Pace to take on the Patriots in the District 2-6A opener for both teams. Kickoff is 7:30 p.m.
The Raiders have won 16 consecutive games away from home in the regular season and 18 of 19 overall on the road.
Navarre (5-0) enters the game ranked fifth in the state and third in the first playoff power poll. Pace (4-1) is ninth in the playoff poll. The top eight will make the playoffs at the end of the year.
The Raiders won a thriller last week, edging Pine Forest 26-25 when Tyler England caught a 10-yard touchdown pass off a tipped ball in the pouring rain at Bennett C. Russell Stadium. Dante Wright’s extra point sealed the win.
The Patriots defeated Choctaw 45-28 last week and have won two in a row. Damean Bivens leads Pace offensively and has already gone over 1,000 yards for the season.
Navarre remains one of the most balanced teams in the area, racking up just under 1,000 yards (974) through the air and a little over 1,000 on the ground (1,016).
Eight different players have scored for Navarre, including Dante Wright, who leads the team with eight touchdowns, while the defense has allowed a little over 1,100 yards (1,122). Josh Carter anchors the defense with 28 tackles and two picks.
The Raiders knocked off the Patriots 49-35 a year ago and also defeated Pace in the spring game 31-14.
Jay Walls is 64-15 and is in his seventh season at Navarre. His team is 36-5 since 2015.
The Raiders are aiming for their fifth consecutive perfect September. Navarre has won 21 consecutive games during the ninth month of the year.
Navarre has had at least 100 yards passing and rushing in each of the first five weeks. It has churned out more than 400 yards of offense three times.
Chris Williams is closing in on 500 yards rushing. He has 456 on 84 carries and has scored four touchdowns. He’s gone over 100 yards twice.
Dante Wright needs only four more receptions to be third all time in receptions. He has 93 in his career.
