Playing for the district championship the season before means the bar has been raised for the season ahead. Navarre’s boys soccer team finished as the runner-up, and the players understand that expectations are much higher this season.
“We’ve set a precedent of what we should do. We’re expecting to go further,” senior team captain Mason Fralick said. “We have a solid team and work well together. We feel like we can win the district championship this year.”
The Raiders had a chance to win one last season but were dominated in a 6-1 loss to Niceville at home at Bennett C. Russell Stadium. As the runner-up, they still qualified for the regional tournament, but the trip was short-lived thanks to a 5-0 loss to Chiles in Tallahassee.
“It was tough, especially at home,” Fralick said. “When we got to that Chiles game, we were out of it. This year is going to be different.”
Nine players return for the Raiders, who are in their third year under the direction of head coach Abdalla Elbaioumy.
