Michelle Lee was thrilled with the turnout at Navarre’s volleyball camp last Wednesday and Thursday.
“It’s always a toss-up as to how many kids will show up because families are on vacation, but I’m happy with the number,” said Lee, the head volleyball coach of the Raiders. We had about 20 the first day and we were expecting a little bigger group the second day. I’m just happy we have kids who want to learn the game.”
It also gave Lee, in her second season as the head coach at Navarre, a chance to see athletes who will be on her teams in the future.
“It’s awesome because a lot of the kids are seventh- or eighth-graders, which means they are going to be in high school in the next couple of years. To have a chance to get a feel for the talent in that group is a great thing.”
Fundamentals and techniques were the focus of the two-day camp inside the gymnasium. Players did drills to improve their footwork and took advantage of opportunities to improve their hitting, passing, serving and setting skills.
