Navarre had plenty of momentum heading into its District 1-4A showdown with county rival Pace Thursday night. The Raiders had won four of their last five.
And having already defeated the Patriots once during this season, a second win seemed likely.
In the end, the Raiders struggled to score as senior night ended with a 2-0 loss to the Patriots, who scored a goal in each half to secure the win on a mild and foggy night at Bennett C. Russell Stadium.
“It was our worse game of the year,” Navarre head coach Abdalla Elbaioumy said. “I think we went in thinking it was going to be an easy game.”
Prior to the game, Navarre’s 11 seniors were recognized, including captains Noah Cruz, Bobby Holderman and Liam Palmatier. The other seniors are Michael Kernan, Brendan Bartlett, Gabriel Patton, Cain Dalton, Colin Cavanaugh, Kyle Hickman, Brandon Lawson and Steven Hauser.
“They are a great group of players and have played a big role on this team,” Elbaioumy said. “It’s disappointing the game didn’t go as well.”
