For most of the night, Navarre’s boys soccer team battled Arnold in a physical and closely contested non-district matchup.
But one mistake proved costly for the Raiders in their game against the Marlins. A first-half goal was the difference in Navarre’s 1-0 loss on a chilly evening at the NYSA Soccer Complex.
“We made one mistake on defense and that allowed them to score,” said first-year head coach Abdalla Elbaioumy. “We played well but one mistake can be the difference in a game.”
The Raiders (2-2-1) had won two-consecutive games going into their showdown with the Marlins but couldn’t cash in on opportunities, particularly in the first half when they seemed to be on the attack often. It marked the first time all season Navarre hasn’t scored at least one goal.
“We had a few great chances but the ball just didn’t go in,” Elbaioumy said. “We did our best to counter attack. It just wasn’t enough.”
