Navarre’s baseball team was an inhospitable host during the Northmont Thunderbolts’ spring break trip to Florida. The Raiders drubbed the “T-bolts” 14-4 in a five-inning tilt last Tuesday.
After a morning on the beaches of the Panhandle, Northmont took to the field in its second game of the season. The Thunderbolts faced senior hurler Kaleb Hellard, who was making his second start.
Sure, it was a pleasant beginning for the team from Englewood Ohio – ending the first inning knotted at one run each.
But the Raider bats woke up in the bottom of the second inning. An RBI double by Branson Ackman followed by an RBI by Garon Finley put the home team up 3-1.
The Thunderbolts strung together a few hits off Hellard in the third inning. They loaded the bases and took a 4-3 lead.
Unfortunately, Raider third baseman Cameron Terrian suffered an injury in the inning. He had to retire to the dugout for treatment. He ended up with a fractured ankle.
Navarre retaliated with four runs of its own in the bottom of the inning, knocking Northmont’s starting pitcher, Jaren Slusher, out of the game.
