Navarre’s tennis teams put up a good fight in the District 1-3A tournament earlier this week, with the girls placing third and the boys finishing fourth.
Raiders head coach Rob Whitley was hoping the girls would have a shot taking the runner-up spot in the tourney played at Shoreline Park in Gulf Breeze Monday and Tuesday, but overall, he was pleased with how things played out.
“Things went the way I expected them, too,” Whitley said. “I was hoping for a few more upsets for the girls that would have given us a chance to be the runner-up, but they had a great year.”
Jordan Wallace was the lone Raider to reach a championship match in singles action. She made the final at third singles after earning wins in the first two rounds. Wallace lost in two sets to Grace Allen in the title match.
“She had a great draw, which she earned, and played well,” Whitley said. “She gave (Grace) all she wanted in that last match.”
Sydney Whiteside and Sultana Pohlmann, the top two singles players for the Raiders, each won their opening round matches of the tourney before falling in the semifinals. Haley Carroll reached the semifinal round at No. 4 singles and Lexi Soto advanced to the semifinal round at fifth singles.
