Navarre’s boys weightlifting team won its first regional title in school history Friday, sharing the championship with Choctaw at the regional meet at Navarre High School.
The Raiders and Indians both tallied 46 points. Fort Walton Beach finished second with 32 points. Navarre won a district title earlier this month. That accomplishment was also a first in school history.
Three individuals won regional titles in Hasaan Williams (169 pounds), Xavier Fernandez (183) and Brent Short (heavyweight) and all three are assured of a spot in the state meet April 16 in Kissimmee.
“I thought we competed really well as a team today,” Navarre head coach Jay Walls said. “The kids have worked really hard since the district meet and the hard work paid off.”
