Raiders blank Bulldogs to win district championship

Tyler Rebber was a little rattled early, giving up a couple of hits that put Crestview in a position to strike first against Navarre in the District 1-7A championship game Thursday night in Navarre.

But Rebber never lost his confidence, and not only did he get the job done on the mound, but he also provided the early offensive spark for the Raiders.

Rebber drilled a big hit to the outfield in the fourth inning., bringing Michael Sandle across the plate for a 1-0 lead and the Raiders rode that momentum to a 10-0, six-inning victory over the Bulldogs. It’s the first district title for Navarre since 2002.

The Raiders have won 13 in a row and play Tallahassee Lincoln Thursday in Navarre in the regional quarterfinal round. Game time has yet to be announced.

“It takes me time to get used to the batters, but once I do, I’m fine,” Rebber said.

As for the big hit, well, Rebber was thrilled he could deliver in a clutch moment,

“I love being the spark and the passion that comes with playing this game. This win was a statement to everyone who was watching.”

The Raiders led 3-0 after four innings and owned a 6-0 lead through five innings.

“It feels great to win this game,” Navarre head coach Scott Murphy said. “We expected it. We have a chance to keep playing. We’re five wins away from one of our other goals.”
