Preseason camp is in the rear-view mirror for the Raiders.
Navarre now turns its attention to its Kickoff Classic game against Chiles at 7 p.m. Thursday at Bennett C. Russell Stadium.
Head coach Jay Walls calls the game a dress rehearsal. It also serves as an opportunity for him to evaluate the team against a real opponent in a game-like setting.
“We’re going to play everybody,” Walls said. “We’ll play our starters in the first half and our varsity backups and junior varsity players in the second half. It will also give us a chance to do a little evaluation. It’s hard to get a true evaluation on everyone, but we are going to try and get everyone in the game.”
Navarre opened camp July 31 after nearly two months of summer workouts. The Raiders held a scrimmage Friday night and are eager to test themselves against an opponent for the first time since the spring game against Pace in May.
Walls said camp has been up and down at times but believes progress is being made as Navarre inches closer to its first official game Friday, Aug. 25, at home against Pensacola Catholic.
