Matt Cronin flirted with history March 7 on Navarre’s baseball diamond. The sophomore hurler struck out 15 Escambia Academy Cougar batters in the Raiders 6 to 1 victory. Former Raider Josh Pyaett set the school record by striking out 16 West Florida Jaguars during the 2009 season.
Navarre loaded the bases with no outs in the second, but managed to score just one run. Cronin helped his own cause by driving in Cyrus Grimes with a single to give the Raiders the early lead.
Cronin allowed just one hit over seven innings. That hit came in the top of the fourth and that Cougar later scored to knot the game at one.
