“Our girls qualified for regionals!” announced Navarre cross-country coach Katie Fein.
Both Raider cross-country teams ran the 4A District 1 championship meet Saturday in Gainesville. And, according to Fein, it’s the first time in eight years the Raider girls have qualified for the regional.
The course, situated on the campus of Santa Fe College, measured as a 5K over hilly conditions. Navarre’s girls finished 10th in the 16-team field.
First across the line for the Raiders was Emma Kirby, who clocked at 22:52 and finished 64th overall. She seems to have shaken off some nagging injuries for a personal-best time. Senior Talley Yamaguchi sped across in 23:36 in 78th place. Ten seconds later Kada Beihl finished in 83rd place. Also scoring for the Raiders were Saylor Marlow (24:01, 87th) and Devyn Craner (24:45, 95th).
Also running varsity were Sailor Reynolds (25:34), Sarah Gordon (26:35), and Caitlin Staudt (27:40).
The girls will return Saturday to the double-loop course at Santa Fe College in Gainesville for the regional meet.
The boys team finished 12th among 17 schools.
