Navarre’s baseball team suffered a couple of close losses last week, falling 4-3 to both West Florida and Pensacola Catholic. The Raiders dropped to 1-4 on the season.
Navarre tallied 10 hits in the two games but struck out 16 times.
“I do not feel like we swung the bats well at all,” Raider head baseball coach Jon Boddy said.
Four times against Catholic, a Raider walked into the batter’s box with runners in scoring position – once with the bases loaded – only to come up empty.
But it’s not as if they haven’t made contact.
Thursday, the team was connecting, but the Catholic defense was making plays. With a chance to drive in a game-tying run in the bottom of the sixth inning, Justin Babcock laced a hard shot, but the Crusaders’ third baseman made a leaping grab, then doubled a surprised, and retreating, Nathan Lovell at second base to end the inning.
