Orth wins district title in pole vault

Charles Orth’s chances of winning the pole vault took a hit before he even competed in the District 2-3A track meet Saturday at Emerald Coast Middle School in Santa Rosa Beach.

“I was a little iffy because I actually snapped two poles in practice this past week,” Orth said. “I wasn’t really sure how I was going to do jumping on a new pole. But it worked out.”

No doubt about it.

Not only did Orth perform at a high level, but he won the district title with a height of 12-feet-6-inches. The Navarre sophomore’s vault was a foot higher than runner-up Jason Blair out of Fort Walton.
