Navarre’s weightlifting team picks up another win

Archbishop McCarthy and the Navarre Raiders demonstrated what sportsmanship is all about as they surrounded the last two lifters.

As Natalya Garza and Alexis Prather each attempted their last lift, the other lifters screamed encouragement.

When each successfully completed their lift, everyone in the weight room congratulated them. It did not matter which team the lifter represented.

The Raiders were scheduled to compete in an invitational meet last Wednesday, but the meet was canceled.

Archbishop McCarthy of Fort Lauderdale was already on the road and made a last-minute request to Navarre head coach Garrett Bagley.

“I asked coach Bagley if his team would be willing to meet with us since we were here,” said McCarthy head coach Daniel Mada.

“We brought 18 girls with us and they would have been disappointed. Coach Bagley agreed, and we were very happy.”

McCarthy is ranked seventh in class 1A. The Raiders won the match but appreciated the competition.
