Navarre’s girls cross-country season ends at regional

The Navarre girls’ cross-country team finished its season at the regional meet Saturday in Gainesville.

The return trip to Santa Fe College pitted the Raiders against top-end teams from four districts. Chiles took the regional title. Niceville – the only other school from this end of the Panhandle competing – finished fourth in the team competition.

“Since we ran the course last week, I already knew what to expect,” Devyn Craner said. “I just had a feeling that I was going to do good when we lined up to start, and to be able to take a minute off my time on my last meet was a huge accomplishment.”

Seven Navarre girls crossed the finish line at the meet. Emma Kirby repeated as the top finisher, finishing in 22 minutes 23 seconds for 102nd in the 137-runner field.

“I used the downhill to pick people off,” Craner said. “When I was going uphill, I made sure to go a little faster so I wouldn’t get tired out and have trouble going up the hill. Since I already knew the course, I knew where to pass people and pick my pace up.”
