Navarre swept a pair of non-district baseball games last week, one in convincing fashion and the other by scrappy play.
Head coach Jon Boddy called it a tale of two games. Navarre rolled over Fort Walton Beach 7-2 last Tuesday and edged Tate 6-5 last Wednesday.
Both games started similarly, as both opponents held a two-run lead before Navarre’s offense could shift momentum.
A single explosive inning by the Raiders was the other similarity.
In Tuesday’s game, they faced Cameron Gagliano, a lefthander with a 3-2 record, and a team with a 9-4 record.
Navarre’s starting pitcher was Ben Waschenko. The Vikings nearly broke the seal in the second inning. A stellar throw from the field nailed Viking baserunner Braden Dorman at the plate.
However, defensive misfires by Navarre spotted the Vikings a 2-0 lead after the top of the fourth. Then Cameron Terrian’s lead-off single paid dividends when he came around to score the Raiders’ first run in the bottom half of that inning. Ethan Andre got the RBI.
