The Raiders won the district championship for the 11th straight time at home on Jan. 8. It was also the 11th straight year they have gone undefeated in district play. The final score was Navarre 111, Niceville 51, Crestview 36 and Fort Walton Beach 21.
The top three lifters from this meet will move on to the Sectionals (also known as the state qualifying) meet. The Raiders qualified all 20 lifters, winning eight of the 10 first places, seven second-place finishers and five third-place finishers. “Over the winter break, Savannah Diel, Bri Diel and Katie Wells dropped weight and qualified for lower weight divisions,” Coach Garrett Bagley said. “Those moves make us stronger in a couple of weight divisions.”
Payton Watson won the 101-pound weight division with a 135-pound bench press and a 115-pound clean-and-jerk for a 250-pound combined lift. Teammate Savannah Bitler placed third with a combined lift of 210 pounds.
Rabiya Emruli won the 110-pound weight division with a 120-pound bench press and clean-and-jerk for a 240-pound combined lift. Wells placed third with a 215-pound combined lift.
Savannah Diel did well in her new 119-pound weight division, winning first place with a 155-pound bench press and clean-and-jerk for a 310-pound combined lift. ‘Cat’ Henry placed second with a 240-pound combined lift.
Bri Diel won her new 129-pound weight division with a 145-pound bench press and clean-and-jerk, giving her a combined lift of 290 pounds. Teammate Macey Kornely placed second with a combined weight of 280 pounds, only 10 pounds less than Diel’s winning total.
