Navarre rallies for win over Owensboro

A four-run explosion in the bottom of the sixth inning propelled Navarre’s softball team to a 6-3 win over Owensboro Catholic out of Kentucky last Tuesday.

The comeback started when shortstop Kallie Anderson swatted a pitch over the left field fence, tying the game at 3-3.

Rachel Hester nearly followed with a homer of her own, the ball landing at the base of the dead-center field fence. The game-winning hit was a bunt by Mary Beloat, which scored Hester from third base.

The Raiders loaded up the bases, forcing Owensboro’s starting pitcher out of the game, and pushed across two more runs by the end of the inning.

The Aces make the trip to Northwest Florida every year during spring break and came in with a 3-3 record. Their starting pitcher was Lexy Hatchett, an eighth-grader.

Allison Gutierrez earned the complete-game win. She threw 101 pitches, allowing three hits, giving up two walks and striking out five.
