Natasha Elliott wasted little time establishing herself in the post. Five quick points for the senior as well as a few rebounds helped Navarre set the tone in a hurry in last Tuesday night’s season opener against Escambia.
By the time the night was done, Elliott had 14 points and the Raiders were celebrating a 64-21 victory over the Gators, their most impressive season-opening win in the three years the team has been under the direction of head coach Abby Fogg.
The Raiders pressured the Gators constantly throughout the game, building a 40-11 lead at halftime and forcing a running clock for most of the second half. Turnovers didn’t always lead to points but they disrupted the Gators’ offense.
“I thought we played aggressive and didn’t let up, which was good,” Fogg said.
When she first arrived, Fogg said that major improvements would be noticeable by year three, and it appears her expectation has become a reality.
