For three quarters Friday night, Navarre had Tate on the ropes in a District 1-8A girls basketball showdown at home.
Foul trouble and missed opportunities cost the Raiders a chance to seal the deal in a 51-48 loss.
“It’s frustrating,” Navarre head coach Abby Fogg said.
Navarre appeared to be in control going into the final quarter. The Raiders led the Aggies 36-25. They were up by as many as 12 in the third when Hailey Neely tipped in the ball off a missed shot to put the Raiders on top 36-24 with 32 seconds to go.
The fourth started off well enough for the Raiders, who used three free throws from Z’kiyah Jones to extend the lead to 39-27.
The Raiders never led by double digits again and found themselves tied at 42-42 with 3:05 to play.
Alyssa Kocon scored off a putback to give her team a 44-42 lead.
Then, with the score tied at 45-45 and just over a minute to play, Sonia Colaguiri took the ball into the lane and scored, drawing a foul along the way.
The play re-energized the Raiders, who led 47-45 at that point. The Aggies took control from there.
