Rock music blares to the point where it almost shakes the weight room on a Thursday morning, the sound loud enough to carry into the parking lot.
Members of Navarre’s weightlifting team are having fun and working hard as they gear up for Friday’s Region 1-2A meet, which the Raiders are hosting starting at noon.
Once in a while, one of the lifters will bust out a dance move.
“You’ll catch us dancing, joking around and motivating teammates. We have fun in here,” senior Jacobi Smith said.
Noah Melendez wouldn’t want to be anywhere else in the morning, even though it was spring break.
“It’s fun to come in here and work out with my friends,” Melendez said. “It’s not something that is forced. We want to be here.”
A little fun never hurt anyone, but don’t be fooled by it. The Raiders mean business.
They are seeking their third regional championship overall, including their second consecutive outright title, and are aiming to send several lifters on to state where they hope to win their first title in program history in two weeks in Panama City.
Already champions of the district for the second year in a row, Navarre sees no reason why it can’t raise another trophy this week.
