Navarre and Niceville play to a tie

Navarre and Niceville squared off in girls soccer last Tuesday night, renewing their rivalry in Navarre on a wet and muddy field.

The two rivals have quite a history, having battled each other in the district and regional finals the last few seasons.

This season, both teams seemed to be evenly matched. The score at the of the game proved as much as it ended in a 1-1 tie.

Head coach Rob Simon will be putting in extra practice on the team’s penalty kicks in case they are needed in postseason play, especially if the Raiders and Eagles meet again in the district or regional tournament.

Eight minutes into the game, Hailey Bastian broke down the right side of the field.

Bastian was fouled by the Eagle goalkeeper when she beat two defenders and moved in for a shot. Jennifer Seward lined up to take the penalty kick. Her hard kick went high into the right side of the net and the Raiders had a one goal lead.

That lead held up until the 43rd minute when the Eagles hit a long shot to tie the game.
