Julia Rathbun didn’t really start seriously thinking about college basketball until she was on the cusp of her final season at Navarre.
Something changed in her the summer of her senior year.
“Junior year, it was kind of iffy. I was a backup player and only started a few games,” Rathbun said. “But my summer before my senior year I really got serious about it. I put a lot of time in outside of practice and felt like it really paid off.”
It did. Not only this past season when she helped the Raiders improve their win total by six games, but by leading her to an opportunity to play at the next level. Rathbun signed with Johnson University in Tennessee last Monday.
“It feels really good,” Rathbun said. “I always felt like I could do it, but I never put a lot of thought into it. After the season, I created an NCSA profile and talked with recruiters through that.”
She made a connection with the coach at Johnson and the rest is history.
