Billy Unterbrink was hanging out in the dugout playing on his cellphone and chatting with teammates during a lightning delay in Thursday’s Subway High School All-Star Baseball game at the University of West Florida’s Jim Spooner Field.
Unterbrink, the lone representative from Navarre on the East team, was hoping for a chance to play, but lightning never stopped flashing on the humid night in Pensacola.
The combination of lightning and the threat of strong storms lighting up the radar, forced the Pensacola Sports Association to cancel the game after one inning. The East prevailed 1-0 in the weather-shortened game that featured players from Escambia, Santa Rosa and Okaloosa counties.
