Tori Martino didn’t hold back setting goals for the season at Daytona State College.
Red-shirted a year ago while battling back from a knee injury, Martino told her coach in the spring she had high expectations.
“We had individual meetings and my coach asked me what my goals were. I told her I wanted to be seen as a leader, and be a captain, and I also wanted to have a good season stat-wise,” Martino said.
They are lofty expectations for the former Navarre soccer standout, who had her senior season ripped out from under her when she tore her ACL during a game in late November of 2016.
Yet, Martino is all smiles as she talks about being named a captain.
“I didn’t know I’d be a captain. I was voted (captain) by my teammates,” Martino said. “It’s a big honor and I’m thankful for the opportunity.”
Martino played in the preseason for the Falcons and has seen time on the field in the regular season as well.
