Emily Madril has been playing soccer her entire life and never imagined the day would come when she would be considered to play for a major college program.
But the dream every high school player works toward became a reality for the Navarre standout last week when Madril gave a verbal commitment to Florida State.
She had been considering other programs, including the University of Florida, but in the end, she was sold on the Seminoles.
“It’s a huge relief to make a commitment,” Madril said. “I don’t have to worry about where I’m going to play after high school. It’s an awesome feeling and I’m looking forward to just going out and playing with my high school team this year.”
The fact that that FSU won the national championship last year, going 24-1-1, weighed heavily into her decision. The Seminoles defeated Virginia 4-2 for the title in December.
“Being the defending national champions was a huge part of it,” Madril said. “I also like the coach a lot. He’s super cool. And the facilities are very nice.”
