Samantha MacFarland is having quite a season with Navarre’s volleyball team, establishing herself as one of the best setters in the area. And here’s the thing. She’s only a sophomore.
Does that surprise her head coach?
“Not at all,” Ryan Davenport said. “All through club season I saw her set and knew she had a great skill set. She accepted the challenge and we’ve advanced the offense throughout the year. She’s taken it on and is doing a great job.”
MacFarland is well-spoken and humble as she talks about the success she has enjoyed in her first full season of varsity volleyball with the Raiders. She is quick to give a great deal of credit to her teammates.
“Having a good team behind me has really helped,” MacFarland said. “Everyone is positive. We’re a tight group. That has helped me have success.”
MacFarland is among the area leaders in aces (46) and assists (306). She’s embraced the pressure of being in such a critical position on the floor and never stops working hard.
