Two local gymnasts spun the southeast region on its head last month, claiming all-around titles, an accomplishment unusual for Northwest Florida, which isn’t known for top-end gymnastics.
Emi Goto and Hannah Gray compete with the Gulf Breeze Gymnastics team and took top honors in their respective skill levels at the USA Gymnastics Region 8 championships held in late April in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
The teenage friends are workout partners who share a common love of handstands, flips and the results of hard work.
Hannah is 14 and attends Alethia Christian Academy in Pensacola. She won three individual event medals in her Level 8 competition at the regional – gold in the vault and uneven bars and silver on floor – in addition to the top honor overall.
Emi attends Gulf Breeze Middle School. In addition to her Level 7 all-around title, the 14-year-old earned silver medals in the uneven bars and beam.
Hard work and the coaching efforts of Paul and Mandy Miller helped lead to their success.
