Lighthouse Private Christian Academy’s boys basketball team set its goals high this season.
The Stingrays wanted a state championship.
On Saturday, they won one, crushing Elite Academy out of Fort Lauderdale 86-36 in the 2A Florida Independent Christian Athletic Association title game in Jacksonville.
“We wanted to win state. That was our biggest goal,” Lighthouse head coach Morris Jones said. “The guys were focused and bought in to what we needed to do to be successful.”
Lighthouse won a national championship last season. This is it’s first state title. The Stingrays rolled past Cornerstone Academy out of Jacksonville on Friday, winning 96-50 to set the stage for its battle with Elite Academy.
Jones said his team could have played with anyone this past weekend based on how dominant his team was on this stage.
“We played two quality teams, but we were just on another level,” Jones said. “I feel like we could have beaten any team. Our guys were focused and playing their best basketball.”
