Tommy Leggett is honored he’ll be one of the captains at Texas Tech this fall. But he can’t say he’s entirely surprised he earned the opportunity to be a leader for the Red Raiders.
“It was a little bit of a shock, but at the same time, the guys know I’m all about my business,” Leggett said. “To know they feel that way about me and see how hard I work, it feels great to be a captain. It’s an honor. I’m thankful for the title.”
Leggett loves having fun but he’s as much about taking care of business as anyone on the field and off it.
The redshirt junior safety and special teams star out of Navarre has always had to prove himself. He went under the radar in recruiting out of high school, winding up at a junior college in California in the fall of 2016. In his one season at Allan Hancock he made an immediate impact and that ignited interest from bigger schools.
That led him to Texas Tech, where he never wondered if he could play at that level. He spent 2017 on the scout team before moving into a bigger role last season.
