Leggett claimed off waivers by Bucs

Jordan Leggett is back in Florida.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have signed the former Navarre football standout after the New York Jets waived him Monday. The Bucs claimed him off the waiver wire late Tuesday night. They were one of five teams trying to sign him after the Jets let the fifth-round pick of the 2017 draft go. Tampa Bay was 5-11 last season.

Pittsburgh, Buffalo, Green Bay and Tennessee all wanted Leggett as well. The tight end out of Clemson is coming off a season in which he caught 14 passes for 114 yards. He also scored a touchdown. Leggett missed his entire rookie season because of a knee injury.

He helped lead Clemson to a national title his senior season, winning that championship in Tampa against Alabama. During his career at Navarre, he caught 117 passes for 1,827 yards and 12 touchdowns.

Leggett is the third player head coach/interim general manager Adam Gase has released after the team fired former general manager Mike Maccagnan last week.
