The regular season could not come soon enough for the Lady Raiders soccer team. In the first game of the year they punished the Catholic Crusaders 8-0 on Oct. 28 at NYSA.
From the opening whistle, the Raiders controlled the game. Less than 30 seconds into the game, Kayla Folse shot from 25 yards and the Crusader keeper barely blocked the shot. The Raiders battled the Crusaders at midfield for control of the ball and kept the pressure on the Crusaders’ defense. The Raider effort paid off in the third minute when Tori Martino crossed a pass in front of the Crusader goal. Melia Gross moved in and scored easily for a 1-0 lead.
The Raiders had several more close chances but could not put the ball into the net until the 10-minute mark. Martino scored after receiving a nice pass from Sydney Whiteside, to make the score 2-0.
