Z’kiyah Jones enters the game late in the fourth quarter of Navarre’s convincing win over Pensacola Catholic Monday night. She hits a couple of free throws and even scores off a rebound.
Her teammates love every moment of it, jumping up and down on the bench. The fans cheer like crazy, a few of them stomping the bleachers. Jones is wearing a smile that says more than words ever will.
This isn’t your typical role player who comes off the bench and puts on a show type of sports moment.
This is so much more.
This moment symbolizes the end of a long road back from the brink of death.
Three months ago, on the afternoon of Aug. 29, Jones was in a nasty car accident on Highway 399 while driving home from school.
It’s amazing Jones left the scene with her life. She spent the next seven days in the hospital.
