Injury sidelined Leggett for season opener

New York Jets tight end Jordan Leggett will have to wait to make his NFL debut. The former Navarre standout missed Sunday’s opener against the Buffalo Bills because of a knee injury. The Bills won 21-12.

He was out of practice Wednesday, Thursday and Friday of last week and it’s uncertain if the rookie will play in Sunday’s road game against the Oakland Raiders.

Leggett is in his first season in the NFL after helping Clemson win the national championship in January. The two-time Mackey Award finalist is the first player in the league from Navarre and was taken in the fifth round by the Jets in April’s draft.

In three preseason games, Leggett caught four passes for 36 yards. He was expected to contend for the starting job because Austin Sefarian-Jenkins had been suspended for the first two games of the season for violating the league’s substance abuse policy.
