Michael Carter is on the Doak Walker Award watch list once again.
The junior University of North Carolina running back is one of 72 to make the list. It’s his second consecutive appearance on it.
The 5-foot-10, 200-pound Navarre alum is in the running for an award that goes to the best running back in the country. He talked about it an interview the other day.
“The watch list deal. That’s a prestigious deal,” Carter said. “I’m not going to lie that it’s not a cool thing for me. It is. I’m honored. But at the end of the day, I just have to keep working.”
Carter rushed for 597 yards and two touchdowns on just 84 carries last season and has more than 1,000 rushing yards in his career. with the Tar Heels. He also caught a touchdown pass in 2018.
Reigning award winner Jonathan Taylor out of Wisconsin is aiming to become just the third player to repeat as the winner.
Texas’ Ricky Williams did it in 1997 and 1998 and Arkansas’ Darren McFadden repeated in 2007.
A total of 10 semifinalists are announced in November and a winner is named in December.
