Brady Hammel started right out of the gate as the kicker on Shorter’s football team. His first time on a college field was in a game against Division I Chattanooga, a game the Hawks lost 66-0.
It was a tough loss for sure, but the experience of getting to play in front of a crowd of 9,588 at Finley Stadium on a Thursday night in early September was one the former Navarre standout enjoyed. He kicked off once in that game. The ball sailed 58 yards.
“It was a really cool atmosphere, to play at a Division I school. It was a lot bigger than what I was used to in high school,” Hammel said.
Hammel now has his freshman season behind him at the NCAA Division II private university in Georgia.
