Mariah McKinney doesn’t have a lot of spare time in the offseason.
When she isn’t playing high school soccer for the Navarre Raiders, she is making trips to Pensacola to play club ball for the Gulf Coast Texans.
The schedule is demanding but the sacrifice is worth it.
“Because I live so far away, the drive is tough,” McKinney said after a tryout session on a humid night in late May. “I don’t get much of a social life either. But I chose soccer and I am pursuing it all the way.”
Several of McKinney’s high school teammates also play for the Texans, who compete in travel tournaments in the spring and fall.
The time she and her teammates put into club soccer is worth every minute.
