Smith helps propel Raiders to spring game victory

Running back Derrick Smith doesn’t shine in the spotlight for Navarre the way teammate Michael Carter does.

Still, no one can discount Smith’s role in the Raiders’ rushing attack.

A year ago, he rushed for 541 yards and six touchdowns, using his bruising power and bursts of speed to finish as the second-leading rusher on the team.

He scored twice, including once on a 25-yard run where he blasted through a hole and ran untouched to the end zone with a minute left, helping Raiders drill the rival Dolphins 35-0.

The junior varsity played the final half and lost 13-7.
